FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The growing sport of triathlon combines swimming, biking, and running activities of varying distances.
• Participants may complete all three segments individually (age group category)
or may be a part of a 2 or 3 person mens, womens, or coed team.
• Finish position is determined by combining times in each of the segments as well as time spent ‘transitioning’ from swim to bike and bike to run.
If you were born in 2006 or 2007, you may be the swimmer or runner on a team. A parent/guardian must be present at Musgrove Park during the event.
If you were born in 2005 or earlier, you may participate as an individual (do all 3 parts) or as a member of a team.
• Age groupers (individuals) are broken into 5 year age groups for award purposes
• Zeus / Xena categories are optional! No one is going to ask what you weigh!
o Zeus = males weighing 200 lbs or more
o Xena = females weighing 150 lbs or more
• Teams may be 2 or 3 persons and may be male, female, or coed
SWIM: 200 meter outdoor pool swim (swim area depth 4’3” to 4’9”)
BIKE: 14.6 mile bike on City and County roads (roads will NOT be closed)
RUN: 5km / 3.1 mile run/walk on City roads (roads will NOT be closed)
YES – but there are 2 start groups for the ladies to choose from:
At 7:30 a.m., the COED group will start – guys and gals who don’t mind mixing it up together!
After the last person in that group exits the pool, the WOMENs group will start – gals who prefer to be neck and neck with other gals!
No worries – the swim lanes being used range from 4’3” to 4’9” in depth – and it is perfectly acceptable to WALK the swim segment.
Can’t help you here – but you don’t have to have a fancy racing bike and you don’t have to be particularly fast – any 2 or 3 wheeled bike will be just fine!
Walking perfectly acceptable here too – remember it’s an event, not a race!
Not interested in being a participant? That’s ok! There are plenty of great opportunities for day of event volunteers – setting up the Park, staffing the ride and run route intersections and water stations, and much more!
